Three CHES apparel design students who completed summer internships with Brandon Maxwell have, after graduating, gone on to work full time for the company. Sisters, Liza and Peirson Rogers, both 2016 graduates and Effie Guenther, a 2018 graduate are all currently employed in the design and development department for the brand, which is a luxury women’s ready-to-wear label launched in New York in 2015.
Brandon Maxwell was awarded the 2019 CFDA Award for Womenswear Designer of the Year, the 2018 Woolmark New York Semifinal Prize Award, 2016 Fashion Group International Rising Star Award for Womenswear, the 2016 CFDA Swarovski Award for Womenswear, and was named a finalist for the 2016 LVMH Prize. Maxwell will act as a judge on the 2019 re-launch of Project Runway on Bravo TV.
The brand was born out of the desire to make women feel beautiful, sophisticated and powerful, with timeless garments that are impeccably tailored. With a focus on craftsmanship, the entire collection is designed in New York City. Inspired by the strong women Maxwell surrounds himself with, his hallmark style of sharp tailoring and sculptural details are apparent in his namesake collection. Each season the designs evolve but the muse stays the same.
The brand is worn by many iconic women, including Michelle Obama, Meghan Markle, Oprah, Blake Lively, Jane Fonda, Queen Rania of Jordan and Tiffany Haddish.
Providing our students with opportunities for experiential learning such as these internships gives CHES graduates a competitive edge when the time comes to move from the classroom to the workplace.
